Notes for businesses

Re-rating inspection is not a free service and a fee is payable. A visit will not take place until payment has been received. The cost of re-rating inspection for 2022/23 is £175.00.

Details of how to pay will be sent to you once the application form is received. If payment is not received within 14 days of the application it will be cancelled.

Terms of Service

  • As the food business operator of the establishment you have a right to request a re-visit for the purposes of re-rating if you have taken action to rectify the non-compliances identified at the time of inspection. This is on a voluntary basis and businesses are not obliged to apply for a re-rating inspection.
  • You can make a request for a re-visit after a planned statutory inspection by the local authority and you can make this at any time after the statutory inspection provided that you have made the required improvements. Thanet District Council charges £175.00 for a FHRS re-visit which is payable before a visit will take place. There is no limit on the number of requests you may make.
  • You must provide details of the improvements made with your request, including supporting evidence where appropriate.
  • If the local authority considers that you have provided sufficient evidence that the required improvements have been made, the local authority will make an unannounced visit. The unannounced re-visit will be carried out within three months of the receipt of your request and payment of the fee.
  • The local authority officer will carry out a new inspection of your premises and will give you a ‘new’ food hygiene rating based on the level of compliance that is found at the time of the re-visit - you should be aware that your rating could go up, down or remain the same.
  • To make a request for a re-visit, please use our online form, once this is received you will be contacted by a member of our payments team to take payment over the telephone. When payment is confirmed the re-visit will be allocated to the food safety team.
