We are checking Council Tax single occupier discounts that have been awarded to people who live alone.

If the information in the letter we have sent you is wrong, please complete this form to appeal against the removal of your single occupier discount.

If there is anyone living in the property who is 16, 17 or just turned 18 years of age, their name and date of birth.
If there is anyone over the age of 18 that is in full-time education and that you receive Child Benefit for, proof of Child Benefit or full-time education such as a student certificate or letter from the head teacher.

About the people who are 16, 17 or just turned 18 years of age

You don't have to pay Council Tax for people under the age of 18. If there is only one person over the age of 18 living in a property you will get a 25% discount.

You can also get a 25% discount if you are receiving Child Benefit for someone who is aged over 18 and in full-time education and you are the only other adult living in the property.

You will need to provide one of the following as proof:

proof of Child Benefit clearly showing which child it is for and when the Child Benefit stops
a student certificate, or
a letter from the head teacher confirming that the person goes to their school and is on a full-time qualifying course of education. The letter must include the persons name, date of birth, the date they started college or school, the date the course started and the date the course ends.

We won't be able to give you a discount unless you provide proof.
