About this form

For tenants and licence holders of Thanet District Council housing only.

In line with our Pet Policy, tenants and licence holders (Thanet District Council temporary accommodation) must apply for permission to keep a pet.

If you are in temporary accommodation provided in the private sector, you should apply directly to the landlord.

You do not need permission to keep:

Caged house birds.
Small caged animals like hamsters, rabbits etc.
Small fish tanks.
Small exotic pets other than those requiring registration under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 (such as venomous snakes other than those requiring registration under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976).

Tenant Declaration & Pet Agreement

Please read the following conditions carefully before checking the box to confirm your declaration:

No breeding or selling: Breeding and selling animals at the property is strictly prohibited.
Vet registration: All pets must be registered with a veterinary practice.
Communal areas: Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times in all communal areas.
Dog fouling: Any dog fouling must be cleaned up immediately and disposed of responsibly.
Garden security: Private gardens must be kept secure to prevent pets from escaping.
Microchipping law: In line with the Microchipping of Cats and Dogs Regulations, all cats and dogs must be microchipped (or face a fine of up to £500). Microchip numbers must be provided to Thanet District Council.
Health & wellbeing: All pets must receive appropriate vaccinations and regular preventative treatment for fleas and worms.
Pet insurance: It is strongly recommended that you purchase pet insurance for your cat or dog.
Pet doors and cat flaps: Cat and dog flaps must not be installed without the council’s prior written consent.
Property damage: The tenant will be held financially responsible for repairing any damage caused to the property by pets.
